Trend Report: This Season’s Biggest Knitwear Trends
There’s no denying that luscious knitwear styles are a vital part of your autumn/winter 2016 wardrobe. Knitwear is the perfect way to layer up in style, while adding an element of comfort and practicality.
Our favourite brands Sass, Fate and Wish have embraced knitwear in effortless silhouettes and shapes, integrating on-trend colours and fabrications perfect for layering. Shades of grey, classic monochrome and pops of colour like wine, khaki and burnt orange are worked into relaxed oversized variations, cropped versions, longline cardigans and a whole lot more!
This season is all about going back to basics, by teaming knitwear with comfortable leggings, denims or midi dresses and skirts for your go-to weekend style.
The biggest knitwear trends for autumn/winter 2016 are:
- Shades of grey:
This season is all about 50 shades of grey, with dark, light and all shades in-between making up our wardrobes this season. From jumpers, ponchos, cardigans and capes no matter the style, embrace grey this season! We love teaming it with leather or all-black styles for an on-trend look. Go neutral with pastel shades or beige colourways.
- Cable Knits:
Add a little volume to your knitwear style with cable knits. Ideal for weekend styling, cable knits add volume to a classic jumper style. Don’t be afraid to wear styles with extra cut outs or cropped variations to mix it up!
- Cropped Knitwear:
Carrying on from summer, crops are back for autumn/winter and are a great way to add a stylish and modern touch. Try raglan styles for a sporty style, or go for fluffy pastel versions for a girlie touch. We love classic monochrome or neutral colours.
- Longline Cardigans:
Cover up in style with longline cardigans. A great addition to your favourite pair of jeans, simply add boots and a feminine blouse for an on-trend look suited for a casual office style or weekend look.
- Pops of Colour:
Interweaved into monochromatic colours are pops of colour, seen in shades of orange, wine, khaki and more brightening up a classic autumn/winter colour palette. Pair them with contrasting fabrics like suede or leather for a stylish everyday look that has a strong 1970’s vibe.
- Contrast Fabrics:
Mesh, faux fur, sheer panelling, metallic threads and so much more are interweaved into your favourite knitwear styles adding a modern touch to classic styles. We love them in jumpers or cardigans!
- Asymmetrical Hemlines:
Re-vamp your favourite styles with asymmetrical hemlines! This season is all about hems that are shortest on one side, waterfall hems or step hem versions.
- Wrap Knits:
A great variation of knits for autumn/winter 2016 is wrap knits, that look fabulous in body hugging styles with uneven hems. Try styles that wrap around the waist and that fall nicely at the back and team with leggings or jeans.
- Off-the-shoulder necklines:
Show off a little skin with off-the-shoulder necklines! These knitwear styles come in all shapes and styles and are ideal for that in-between weather.
